Alcohol Testing
KT Health Recommended Tests
- EBT Breath Alcohol | $55
- 10 Panel w/Alcohol (UA) | $70
- ETG/ETS (Urine) | $110
- ETG Alcohol Hail/Nail | $265
Alcohol Detection Times for Test Types*
- EBT Breath Alcohol | Up to 24 hours (Instant Results)
- 10 Panel With Alcohol | Up to 10 hours
- ETG/ETS Urine | Up to 80 hours
- ETG Hair | Up to 90 days
- ETG Nail | Up to 6 months
If you are needing to test for alcohol, it is imperative you act quickly. Alcohol dissipates from the body quickly and can be difficult to detect after 5 days from use.
Due to the length and time the byproducts of alcohol, ethyl glucuronide (ETG) and ethyl sulfate (ETS) stay in the body, we recommend the ETG hair/nail test to confirm recent or chronic alcohol use.
*Times given are estimates of how long alcohol can be detected in the body.
Marijuana Testing
KT Health Recommended Tests
- 10 Panel UA (Urine) | $65
- K2/K3/K4 (Synthetic Pot) | $110
- 5 Panel Hair or Nail | $180
Times Marijuana Is Detectable*
Urine
- Single/First-time Use | Up to 5 to 8 days
- Occasional Use | Up to 11 to 18 days
- Frequent Use | Up to 30 to 45 days
Hair
- Single/First-time Use | Unlikely
- Occasional Use | From 10 to 90 days
- Frequent Use | From 10 to 90 days
Nail
- Single/First-time Use | Unlikely
- Occasional Use | From 14 days to 8 months
- Frequent Use | From 14 days to 12 months
Due to the different rate (hours or days) that THC or its metabolites are detectable in urine, hair or nails in combination with the unknown amount of usage by the donor, in order to get an accurate picture of the donor’s drug use, we recommend you complete both a UA and Hair/Nail Test.
Additionally, there is high use of synthetic marijuana in our area, it is common for individuals to use the “K2-family” of synthetic pot to avoid detection. If you are unsure of what kind of marijuana could be utilized by the donor, we recommend adding the K2 test.
*Times given are estimates of how long marijuana can be detected in the body.
Imposter! Detecting faux pot. AKA: Spice/K2
Detecting Spice/K2 is different than detecting cannabis, but not more difficult than detecting cannabis.
Spice/K2 is a synthetic cannabinoid that has taken the lime light in recent years as an alternative to using marijuana, especially in those being drug tested by traditional methods for cannabis. Many don’t realize that Spice/K2 can be detected.
Know the difference:
Testing for cannabis means testing for THC. Testing for Spice/K2 means testing for JWH-018 and JWH-073.
Methamphetamine Testing
KT Health Recommended Tests
- 10 Panel UA (Urine) | $65
- 5 Panel Hair or Nail | $180
Times Methamphetamine Is Detectable*
Urine
- Single/First-time Use | From 1 to 4 days
- Occasional Use | From 1 to 7 days
- Frequent Use | From 1 to 10 days
Hair
- Single/First-time Use | From 10 to 90 days
- Occasional Use | From 10 to 90 days
- Frequent Use | From 10 to 90 days
Nail
- Single/First-time Use | From 14 days to 8 months
- Occasional Use | From 14 days to 8 months
- Frequent Use | From 14 days to 8 months
Due to the different rate (hours or days) that methamphetamine or its metabolites are detectable in urine, hair or nails in combination with the unknown amount of usage by the donor, in order to get an accurate picture of the donor’s drug use, we recommend you complete both a UA and Hair/Nail Test.
*Times given are estimates of how long methamphetamine can be detected in the body.
How Drugs Are Incorporated In Hair
Hair is a reservoir matrix, which provides a long-term window of detection for drug and alcohol (ab)use.
Hair can trap drug and alcohol biomarkers through multiple routes:
Blood
Biomarkers traveling through blood vessels enter the root of the hair and become trapped in the core as the hair grows.
Sweat
Hair becomes saturated with sweat as we perspire. Biomarkers can be secreted through the sweat glands and are absorbed by the hair shaft.
Sebum
Sebaceous glands in the hair follicles deposit an oily substance, known as sebum, that lubricates the growing hair shaft. Drug and alcohol biomarkers in the sebum can be deposited and absorbed by hair.
Environmental Exposure
When drugs such as marijuana, methamphetamine, or crack cocaine are smoked, drug residue in the air can be deposited on, and incorporated into, the hair shaft.
Facts:
- It takes 10-14 days for drug and alcohol biomarkers to be deposited in the hair root and then emerge past the scalp line.
- Optimal samples will provide a 3 month window of detection for drug and alcohol (ab)use.
- The average rate of growth for hair is a half inch per month.
- An optimal sample is a 1.5 inch hair sample of about 200 strands, cut close to the scalp (the width of a #2 pencil).
The Benefits of Fingernail Testing
- Drug and alcohol biomarkers are trapped in the keratin fibers of the fingernail. Hair is also made of keratin fibers, but biomarkers may be washed out of hair by common cosmetic treatments, a problem that doesn’t exist when testing nails.
- Nail keratin is 4x thicker than hair. Nail often captures more of a biomarker than hair. As nail grows in thickness and length, biomarkers build up in the nail at the germinal matrix and along the nail bed, collecting the full history of drug use.
- Nail and hair samples capture the same drugs.
- The sample is non-intrusive and donor-collected.
- A nail sample has minimal impact on the donor’s appearance.
- We confirm all presumptive positives on state-of-the-art instruments.
- Nails provide 3-6 months of drug and alcohol use history. Biomarkers are detectable in nail one week after drug or alcohol use.
Tips:
- Nails provide 3-6 months of drug and alcohol use history. Biomarkers are detectable in nail one week after drug or alcohol use.
- A 2-3mm clipping from each fingernail provides the perfect sample. About the width of a quarter.
- Not enough fingernail? Collect toenails instead. Never mix fingernails and toenails in the same sample.
